Certainly it cam be done, if a few different ways. In fact, it's quite easy to do. Like Wim suggested, check out the help section to see how to do this.

take the excel file and drag it on top of the filemaker icon and tada - it opens as a filemaker table.

But yes - importing is quite simple as well if you follow the help guide.

Is Kelvin asking if it is possible through PHP?

PHP can upload, read files and send the data to Filemaker, however I'm not sure if it can make enough sense of the content of an Excel spread-sheet file to achieve what is desired (it would be able to make sense of an Excel CSV file).

p.s. A little bit of research tells me that you may be able to access an Excel spread-sheet with PHP via ODBC.
