Hello,

Is it possible to enlarge a container image if this field is viewed via a portal?

In my experience, portal fields are only large enough for alphnumeric characters which results in container images impossibly small. I would like to be able to adjust an image to about 1-inch in height and also be associated with the portal fields to which it is associated. Or perhaps there is a way to script a larger version of the associated image in the parent file?

At the moment, the image has been inserted into the container field, but is too small to be of any use.

To be clear, I sell a line of greeting cards and I want to be able to view the actual card image along with the related line-item invoice data that a vendor is ordering. In my case, the invoicing is done via a portal into the parent retailer table. I hope I have explained this well enough.

Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

portal rows can be enlarged to accomodate even bigger fields...

But it's really what you want ?

Isn't better a container field near the portal ?

You can view a container field via a relationship, it doesn't have to be in a portal. The results of your size will depend on the quality of the original image, and what options you use in the Layout Mode on the Graphic Container Field.

Hello raybaudi,

Thanks for your comments. Here is what I would like to be able to do.

When I select the invoice line item, I would like to see the card image which is associated with this row. Ideally, the image should be visible when the invoice line is selected. I would prefer this method because I can quickly see all the cards that have been ordered by this retailer.

At the moment, I have added a container outside of the portal, but cannot seem to get the images to change as I move from line-item to line-item.

Thanks for your help,

Hello Lee,

I am experimenting with this at the moment, but cannot populate the container field with the image associated with each line as I select each one.

Any further suggestions or tips in this regard would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for your post,

Phillip

You can do this by simply setting a global field when you click a button on the portal. You can make the button clear and be the size of the portal. Create a relationship from this global field to the priamry key of the recowrd with the image.

Here is an old sample that I made. In this sample, you click on an image and get the related text. In your case it would be the reverse where you click on text and get an image, but I am sure you will get the idea.

Take a look at the Photo file that came with your FileMaker Application.

Sorry Lee,

I didnt even think of that. Quite honestly, I have never really looked at those sample files unless a user on here has had an issue with them; only to find that FMI insists on using repeating fields to store data. lol.

LOL. The Photo file is the only one that I have found to be useful. The rest of them are very confusing to newbees IMO too, and like you said "Repeating Fields" .....

I just took a look for this photo file that Lee referred to and could find nothing like that. I also quickly scanned the 'FMP Read Me' pdf file and found no reference to a photo file.

This was all I could find on my FM 7 CD. Am I missing something here?

The file path should be :

Macintosh HD:Applications:FileMaker Pro 7:English Extras:Templates:Home:Photo Catalog.fp7

Gentlemen,

OK! I was looking for love in all the wrong places.

I thought all of your were referring to FM files on the FM 7 CD. I just found the 'Photo Catalog' template. I have to be honest here, I never use any of these templates preferring to create all of my tables on my own.

I will now dissect this template to see what makes it tick.

Thanks to all of you who helped me out with my problem.

Cheers,

Phillip
