FM 5.5 through VPN Tunnel ?

Greetings all, this is my first post. I work for an Apple dealer in Philly and we have a client for whom we recently installed a pair of Sonicwall Firewalls to provide a VPN Tunnel between 2 remote offices. Prior to accessing the Filemaker host through the VPN tunnel, we had users in the second office access the main server via Port forwarding on their Comcast router. The FM server is running 5.5 on a Dual Processor PowerMac G4 running OS 10.4

Their comcast speeds are 12 MB down and 1 UP.

There are 14 databases (all under 20MB) that are opened and used, Opening the DBs on the internal network where the server resides takes about 15 seconds.. yet over the VPN can take more than 2 minutes.

I find these times really slow and was wondering if anyone else had encountered VPN slowdowns using Server 5.5?
