Hello

A customer is running a FM 5.5 Server (PowerMacintosh G5)

While Backup issues are mostly resolved, they don't (yet) have a solution if the G5 breaks (if anything goes wrong...)

My questions:

•is a spare MacMini G4 (configured, all they need is the databases) a solution worth recommending?

•did anyone try running the databases on a SSD attached with a USB case (on such a "low level" temporary server?

•is there a better solution for a temporary "bring it back to it's feet while we fix the other one"?

Thank you and cheers

From memory, 10.5 might still be able to run FMS 5.5 -- although Leopard broke a lot of things. If it does then you can use a slightly newer Intel Macintosh.

Your clients need to bit the bullet and upgrade to FMP 7 and later. It's not necessarily a huge expense as long as the original files are reasonably written and didn't get too smart with fancy stuff.

what I read just searching the net was:

5.5 Server + Intel Mac + Tiger -> Works

5.5 Server + Intel Mac + Leopard -> Server will not start

So I should go for a MacMini Intel Core Duo with Tiger and internal SSD. Did anyone use such a server?
