Self relationship behaviour (show/hide buttons).

Featured Replies

I have made this sample file to explain what I’m trying to accomplish, that is, to show only the correct button everytime.

The show/hide buttons trick works perfectly but only if there’s only one record in the parent table.

I know it’s because the relationship happens at last once if there’s more than one record.

I have tried to relate the IDs as constant but couldn’t make it work either.

How could I make it work independent for each record?

Another question:

When I create a new record, why does always show the clear child button until I commit the record, even when the correct relationship to show generate button is set.

Thank you very much.

I am having a hard time trying to understand what you are attempting to accomplish here. You can always do a self join on the parent IDs in your self join. You can use filtering in the portals to conditionally show or not show items instead of using multiple relationships.

Thanks for answering mr_vodka.

Don't worry about the portals.

I focus in the buttons.

I try to make them work (show/hide) properly.

The portals are what show/hide the buttons...

I apologize mr_vodka.

I was talking about the real file (that has a few other portals), not the sample one. Of course the sample has 4 portals, one for each button.

I think I understand now what you were trying to tell me, following it I have fixed the sample. For me, now works like a charm.

I post it so it could help others.

Thanks for your help.

It can even be simpler. Here is a sample. Also, be really careful when you are deleting after a GTRR. You should always error check as when there are no records it stays on the parent and can cause unwanted deletion of records.

mr_vodka, could you please post a version of VisibleButtons.zip in the fp7 file format, for those of us who don't have/aren't allowed to buy, FM12?

Who's "not allowed" to buy FM 12?

Many folks are 'not allowed' to buy by their companies or managers. I think that is what Drew means. :-)

Well this wasnt a file that I made but rather the file was a modified version of the original poster's file. I have tried recreating his file with my modifications in an fp7 format.

mr_vodka, thank you.

LaRetta, yes, that's exactly what I meant.

I apologize, I was about to end the file but mr_vodka did it first.

Don't worry about who did the file, it was a simple raw idea you guided to the right place so maybe is more yours than mine, lol.

I'm here to learn and if some of my needs can help others, fine.
