How do I turn off breakpoints in Manage Script?

post-98678-0-08115900-1362609943_thumb.j

Now every file I open have this grey sidebar to toggle breakpoints in Manage Script. Even creating new files from template. I did not open Script Debugger.

Restarting FMP did not solve it. Nor restarting the computer. It is still there when creating new script step. I just want to turn it off so I can reorder my scripts.

And since I did not open Script Debugger, what do you call/name this function? Toggle breakpoint in Manage Script? Searching the world wide web always point me to Script Debugger. And I couldn't find any answer in the Help file either.

I'm afraid that this might be an easy thing to solve and embarassed myself for now knowing

I don't understand "breakpoints"?

I looked at the screen shot of your script you posted, and it doesn't help.

WAG might be Exit if script step.

Why not print to text a copy of your script.

I think he's talking about the fact that the arrows to move the script steps seem to be missing in that picture... making it very hard to re-order script steps

I'll post another picture.

This is from a script. From the Manage Script/ScriptMaker. It doesn't matter what script. Any file.

But why is the grey column there? Clicking on it toggles a Breakpoint.

I don't want it. i don't want to set a breakpoint. I did not use Script Debugger nor Data Viewer.

Where do I turn it off? It appears on every file, all scripts. I want my regular arrows so I can re arrange scripts.

Few days ago I launch my Filemaker and its been like that since. From the Script Debugger standpoint, its called setting a breakpoint. But I didn't open SD.

Hope this clearify my descriptions. I don't know how else to explain this because I wouldn't know what to call it.

The left grey area is there. It is FileMaker's design decision. It isn't an option. You do not have no control over it.

No it won't. There is nothing you can do to remove the gray sidebar; which is what riprock is talking about.

But I think we are talking about two different things.

Is riprock really concerned about breakpoints? Or script editing?

I think what riprock is not clear about is how you actually move script steps up and down in a script.

How do you edit (re-sequence) the steps of a script?

To do this you click on the text of the script step itself, and drag it up or down.

ALSO: you can click (or shift-click to select multiple steps) and use control-up-arrow or control-down-arrow to move the selected steps up or down in the script.

In FM11 there were little arrows you could click and drag to re-sequence the script steps.

Thank you for replying. At least there's some answer to this annoyance.

To clearify further, I am not concern about breakpoints or script editing in that sense. The Filemaker I'm using is version 12v3 on a MacOS X 10.8.2. I am more annoyed by "who turn on this breakpoint thing in the Manage Script?". I used to see those little arrows to re-order those scripts. Now all of a sudden there's this grey column and the arrows are gone. So my immediate reaction is to question why the breakpoints appear in the Manage Script which I usually see only in the Script Debugger. Why is it like that and how do I turn it off?

OK now I know that I can still re-order my scripts by just draging its text to move up and down. Thank you BruceR. I didn't know that.

I don't believe that this is a "version 11 with arrows and not in 12" thing because last week I still see those arrows while working on some files. So this isn't really solving it. Yes I can now work on scripts just like before and pretend nothing happens. But now, with that grey column there, is the Script Debugger monitoring my scripts even if I don't use it? Will it effect my other scripts?

I just want to turn that thing off, whatever it is you want to call it. Seemingly, I find that this is not the norm.

So to all Filemaker 12 users, do you see those arrows or do you have the grey colum? Is the grey column the new norm?

Script steps cannot be re-ordered in the de-bugger window. Break points cannot be set in the script editing window.

Two different windows, two different functions.

If your nose runs and your feet smell, you're standing upside-down.

Riprock:

The gray column is the new norm. Give up already.

The arrows are visible in the Manage Scripts window.

  Example window name:

  Manage Scripts (Contacts)

  Manage Scripts (Contacts (serverName))

The arrows are not visible in the Edit Script window.

  Example window name:

  Edit script "Startup" (yourFileName)

Vaughan: breakpoints CAN be set in the script editor window.

"Script steps cannot be re-ordered in the de-bugger window. Break points cannot be set in the script editing window."

Whoa!!

So this is a bug, yes? Looking at my screenshots, you very well know that it is from the Script editing window.

So BruceR and steigrafx's Filemaker is not functioning right as well too.

Vaughan, I smell something fishy...

Nothing is fishy.

You have never been able to edit scripts in the debugger; though you have always been able to set/unset checkpoints in Script Debugger AND in the script editor.

Ok I search the Help menu and this is what I find:

[ Set or clear a breakpoint from the selected line. Breakpoints allow the Script Debugger to execute large sections of a script, pausing only to inspect the section marked with a breakpoint. Breakpoints are ignored by FileMaker Pro when the Script Debugger is not in use. You can set or clear breakpoints in the Script Debugger or when you create scripts. To set a breakpoint when you create scripts, click to the left of the step. Breakpoints are saved with the script in which they are set. You can set breakpoints on multiple steps. Note: You cannot set breakpoints on steps called by a button or custom menu. ]

I highlighted it in red.

Yes, I see arrows in Manage Script window and not see arrows in Edit Script window.

But I swear I saw those arrows all these years up until last week. I should be able to toggle it off and see the arrows.

I've never seen any forum post of people complaining about it so I guess that's just me. I'll wait a few more days and see what gives.

I opened v 10, and the arrows exist in the Edit Box as you described. I guessed this changed in version 11 (no one that I know of even noticed) :)

However, I don't see a difference in the Dugger.

Lee Smith:

Ha! You have to go check out v10 just to see it for yourself.

But I assure you the arrows exist in v11 as well as v12.

I don't have access to v10 Advance. Could you just do a breakpoint in your "Dugger" (I might just call it that next time) in any of the script step and then open the script edit box to see if the red breakpoint is there? Save the script if you will. If it is there, you'll have the grey column and your arrows will be gone. Then quit Filemaker. Relaunch. Your arrows might be gone forever.

Let me know how it goes.

Sorry for the misspelling, dugger should be Debugger, and I hope I haven't made this thread more confusing that it already was.

I have no more time to spend on this frivolous journey. These two tools are what they are.
