auto-filled data over web

I can't get auto-filled data to appear in a new record.htm so the user can see the info for those fields. After the record is submitted the info is there correctly but it doesn't show in the new record.htm. I've tried to use the cdml tag:

[FMP-Field artNumber] in a textbox and not in a textbox as is used for the display. My guess is it's not accessing the dB in order to display this info only the field names.
