I currently run FMPA version 12.05 on Mac OS 10.7.5. Since some of you have already upgraded to FMPA 13, please give me good reasons for upgrading to 13. Reading the available information from FM Inc has failed to convince me, but I always upgrade eventually.

Thanks,

Rick.

Rick my one feature that I think can be the biggest benefit is the PopOver object - this allow for MORE data entry on one layout inline - and can eliminate many "POPUP" windows" - and if you deal with windows and popups you know how annoying that is.

A  pop over can be very handy for showing a portal - web viewer - more fields - charts - etc.

If you are deploying for iOS having dedicated KEYBOARDS for different fields ( PHONE / NUMBERS / EMAIL  ) and ability to scan barcode directly with the camera and not have to do the application dance with a 3rd party app.

In addition to that there are some important bug fixes in there as well.  Since you are going to upgrade eventually, why not just start using it and see what you like?

Is there a good source of information on the bug fixes you can share?

Meanwhile, what Stephen said. Also the object visibility feature will be super useful, and styles. Encryption at rest is great.

No more java server admin! Perform script on server!

Web Direct doesn't grab you, eh?

Bug fixes: just those that I logged with FMI over time and got time to test in 13.  The most important one was a serious performance degradation when showing a chart under certain circumstances.

13 also will major decrease the bloat which conversions experienced moving from 11 to 12; 13's code is lean and mean.

But I agree that there are many features making upgrade well worth it.  The ability to make a change to a field and save its style in a theme and importing themes from one file to another saves so much time.  Hide ROCKS as well as List Of (summary which allows collecting IDs for example).  But I think my favourite is web direct.  I also really like Field Picker which allows selecting MULTIPLE fields to place on a layout, search, and filtering.  It was such a PIB before without those abilities.

There are also many smaller things which you will notice ... selecting multiple objects now highlights them all individually (in blue) in addition to the corner and resize handles.  Everywhere I look there are tweaks and improvements.  It is obvious that they tried to improve everything they could.  I have never felt more comfortable and pleased with FMI as I am with 13.

Thanks for the replies. I upgraded!

Rick.

After several hours of careful reading & consideration, I upgraded yesterday evening.

Well worth it for the customizable Themes & Styles controls, pop-overs, much better mobile device support, among many other features.

Also, FMP Advanced 13 is subjectively snappier & more responsive (faster screen refresh when chaninging layouts, opening/closing windows) right out of the box. Even when running un-optimized solutions built in FMP 12, such as SeedCode Calendar Pro 5.x, and my own proprietary (and complex) in-house business-tracking solution.
