Hi:

I am planning the upgrade to 18, I have 3 questions

1- I will host my own server, as I do now with 11.

We are 9 users, normally not more than 5 are connected. I don’t want to install a Windows server so I will go with a Mac. I am thinking of the basic Mac Mini upgrading memory to 16 GB, is it OK?

2- Of the above 9 users, 4 are occasional. I have 4 FMPA 17 individual licenses.

If I buy  5 user licenses, can these 4 occasional users connect to the server with the individual FMPA 17 licenses, or do I have to buy the 9 user licenses?

3 - I will keep using  Super Container, no point in using time to move to remote containers (tons of files)

I will leave the computer that hosts SC as is, I guess that will be no problem (it is the same that currently hosts FMS 11, since load is light, it has not been an issue.

it is a Windows 7 Pro machine.

thanks

Carlos

Server specs: we can't help you on that one without a lot more information about your solution and how it is designed.  Since you already have FMS, use its stats.log to determine if you are hitting any bottlenecks currently, and if so post back here and we can help you brainstorm on what it would take to overcome them.

You cannot buy the 5-user license if you have a  team of 9 users.  Under "user licensing" you have to license the whole team, whether they are occasional users or not.

The alternative is to buy "concurrency licensing" instead of "user licensing".  Concurrency licensing is 3X as expensive as user licensing so you need to do the math at what point buying user licensing is more efficient.  For instance: purchasing a license for 4 concurrent users max, is going to be more expensive than buying user licensing for 9.

(And you get three servers with user licensing, one of which can be a FM Cloud instance.  You only get one server with concurrency licensing).

Hi Wim:

thanks for your answer.

Licensing: Maybe my question was not well made. I already have 4 standalone lifetime FMPA 17 licenses. So I wonder if users of those licenses can connect to the server?

Bottlenecks: No real bottlenecks in the current system.

Thanks

Carlos
