I used to do some development for Lasso 3.6 and FM 5.0. An old client is thinking about turning the old Webstar 4, Lasso 3.6, FMP 5.0 on OS 9 into something a bit more modern, and I have a bunch of questions...

I'm looking into Lasso 5, Webstar V and FMP 6 or maybe 4D.

How is the does the performce? For example, currently the system is on 3 computers:

Webstar -> FMP 5 Client -> FM Server.

On B&W 350 to 400 G3s. It is quite slow. I'm hoping to put it all on one G4 550 with OSX 10.2 and have it faster?

As well, there is the FMP vrs 4D, I hear 4D is way faster and more up to the task the FMP? Would 4D be worth it?

What about Webstar V, Lasso 5 can work with Apache, is it worth getting still?

Lasso 5 /FMP is a little Faster than lasso 3.6.

I suggest you to look at Apache/Lasso5/LassoMySql solution.

However You can redesign your FMP Database. For each request make a special layout with the only field used in the request. It make your solution faster.

FYI

there is NOT speed difference in FileMaker and WebCompanion between layout with 1 field and layout with 1000 fields.

WC is serving all, but portals from internal layout (-raw).

I know nothing about Lasso, but if Lasso is getting data from WC, than this theory is of the tracks.
