This posting is for a full-time, in-house "tech-of-all-trades" position that's heavy on the FileMaker, with a small-ish non-profit in San Francisco. Excellent attitude a must.

The database aspect includes managing and maintaining about a dozen databases (table sets) with a total of about 100 tables. There are also a couple of Lasso-connected websites we hope to upgrade 'some day', but those are not front-burner.

We're ready to fill this position as soon as we find the right candidate.

Management Information System (MIS) / Technology Unit Coordinator

Unique opportunity to work with a dynamic nonprofit organization in downtown San Francisco! California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), a private nonprofit advocacy organization and legal services support center, with a 24-year track record of litigation, legislation and advocacy reform, seeks well-organized, self-motivated, computer competent person with a passion for advocacy and social change as Management Information System/Tech Unit Coordinator.

Position Summary: This is a “tech-of-all-trades” position requiring advanced skills with FileMaker. The ideal applicant will possess extensive experience in FileMaker database development, documentation, and management; excellent desktop publishing skills; strong abilities with the Microsoft Office Suite and with general LAN and workstation support; proficiency in website and ISP management; and good organizational skills; Lasso skills a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

o Maintain Consumer Information Service (CIS) Database systems, including

1. Database development and documentation and routine data updates from government  

agencies and other source

2. Creation and production of routine and special reports

3. Ensure data integrity, and make changes to best serve the organization's needs.

4. Update databases to take advantage of improved FileMaker functionalities

5. Ensure routine back-ups of all systems and data; recover as needed.

o Web Responsibilities

1.  Perform routine updates to database-driven websites, including imports of outside data; initiate revisions to site layout and functions as needed.

2.  Provide backup for the development and maintenance of CANHR.org web site.

o LAN Maintenance, Staff Training and Tech Support, including

1.  Provide staff support including software installations and updates, troubleshooting technical problems, staff training and technical support

2.  Update software on workstation computers as needed.

3.  Ensure daily back up of the Macintosh computer network and recover as needed.

4.  Research and plan updates of software and hardware

5.  Provide technical support for special projects/events.

Qualifications: Strong organizational, prioritizing and multi-tasking skills and ability to work with minimal supervision, and attention to detail essential. B.A./B.S. or equivalent experience with computer systems and database management. Strong knowledge of Macintosh and FileMaker Pro required. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively. Sense of humor a plus!

CANHR's main software: Macintosh OS X; FileMaker Pro; Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign; Microsoft Office suite; Adobe/Macromedia DreamWeaver MX; Dantz Retrospect.

Salary: $50,000+ DOE with excellent health/dental and vacation and sick leave benefits.
