May 13, 200817 yr When I try to create a tab using Filemaker Pro 8.0v2 on my Mac (OS version 10.4.11), it displays correctly in "edit" mode. But when I enter data-entry mode, FM "sees through" the tab - and displays all fields (from all the tabs) stacked on top of one another. Clicking the other tabs, I see the same thing - all fields stacked. Worth noting: one of the tabs contains a large table. The *first* time I created the tabs, I dragged all the fields into the proper place and went into data-entry mode. It worked properly. I then went back into edit mode and moved the tab window slightly, changed the color of the two tabs to make the display more aesthetic. *Then* it stopped working - and no matter what I do, won't display properly (all fields across tabs are stacked). After hours of trying to re-create the tabular box and varying little things (not changing color, etc), I never got it to work again. I called my colleague, who I share the database with online, and asked her to try to set it up - thinking it was a problem with my local version of FM. She created the tab and it worked! I then changed one of the fields within the tab and it reverted back to the problem display (stacked fields). She tried re-creating the tab from scratch... Same problem. Thinking that it only takes the first time created on a machine, we got all fields formatted exactly as we want them, and pulled a third colleague in - thinking we could have her create it for the first time and it work, then just drop all the pre-formatted stuff into the new tab. It didn't work. I'm at wit's end. Any suggestions?
May 13, 200817 yr Hi may be that one or more field are too large... give a look at http://filemaker.custhelp.com subject: Layout Objects Appearing on Every Tab
May 13, 200817 yr Author Hi may be that one or more field are too large... give a look at http://filemaker.custhelp.com subject: Layout Objects Appearing on Every Tab Had a look at that link, but that's not it. All fields are well within the borders of the tab box.
May 14, 200817 yr All fields are well within the borders of the tab box. What about free upgrade to 8.0v3 ?
May 14, 200817 yr Author What about free upgrade to 8.0v3 ? Not sure how to go about doing that. It appears FM is up-to-date on my machine...
May 14, 200817 yr Author Why dont you post a copy of your file so that we can try to reproduce it. my ceo wouldn't be comfortable with that ;)
May 14, 200817 yr It appears FM is up-to-date on my machine... 8.0v3 is newer than 8.0v2. http://fmdl.filemaker.com/UPDT/fm/8/MacOSX/3/fm_8v3_osx_updater.dmg
May 15, 200817 yr Author 8.0v3 is newer than 8.0v2. http://fmdl.filemaker.com/UPDT/fm/8/MacOSX/3/fm_8v3_osx_updater.dmg I installed 8.0v3 and the problem persists. Any other ideas?
May 15, 200817 yr Did you download the demo I posted? If that has a problem, then we can rule out the overlap of a field. What version of FM added the tab panel, anyway?
May 15, 200817 yr Author Let's try with this demo copy. I downloaded the demo copy and duplicated the tab box (with tabs "one," "two," etc.), then dragged field 1 into tab1, field2 into tab2. Then went back into data-entry mode to test... My tabs worked perfectly - just as they should. What does that tell me, though? Why is the file I'm working with acting wonky?
May 15, 200817 yr Well, it does confirm that you have the correct FM version (not two copies of FM and you think you've launch FM8, but launched FM7). So, we're left with an overlap--has to be. When you say that one of the tabs has a "table" do you mean a portal? Really, something must be overlapping. Are there any grouped fields? Could a group include an object that is outside the tab panel and you don't realize it?

Could a group include an object that is outside the tab panel and you don't realize it? Yes, a portal - to another table. No grouped fields that I know of (is there some way of telling?). Download 3 screenshots of what I'm seeing here: http://download.yousendit.com/4F4C00581CE79018 Worth noting, as far as the "grouped" thing goes... All fields on the "personal" tab are brand new; I just added them to the (old/existing) database last week - so I'm *certain* they're not grouped. When I put *just* those fields into a tab and go into edit mode, they still appear on *both* tabs when in data-entry mode. ?
May 15, 200817 yr How come the fields on Events tab are sent to the back? They should be entirely within the boundaries of the first portal row, in the very front. I can't tell from the screenshots, but this tab panel is in the body part, correct? Edited May 15, 200817 yr by Guest
May 15, 200817 yr I can't tell from the screenshots, but this tab panel is in the body part, correct? Having the panel on the header and body would cause this behavior. I think the tab panel is just a pixel or two too close to the header. Headers aren't really necessary for data entry layouts. Either get rid of the head altogether or arrow the panel down a pixel or two.
May 15, 200817 yr Author THAT DID IT!!! Such a simple thing - moving the ******* window downward 2 pixels... You guys rock! A dose of good karma to you!
