March 23, 200916 yr Newbies I have three computers on a network, one hangs when I try to load in the largest database and a coffee cup shows us for a very long time - sometimes 20 minutes. Again, this happens on only one computer.
March 23, 200916 yr Based on the details you provided, I'd say that something is definitely wrong. We may need more details to work out what that something is though. :
March 25, 200916 yr Author Newbies The database was converted from 3.0 to 9.0 last fall from a Mac to a PC. There were only minor problems. All the computers were purchased at the same time, same model etc., so there's not much chance it's the computer. The network cables were changed out last fall and have been checked again. A cable from a working station was used on the problem station resulting in the same problem, but the problem is intermittent. Is there anything in network settings on the host computer that would make this happen? All computers use Vista Business. Since this problem is happening on only one computer, one would think it's the computer. But, after setting it back to factory settings, and a reinstall of FMP 9, the problem continues, It should be noted the problem stopped for about a month, after FMP was reinstalled on a clean computer...though, it ran on the slow side...that is, it spent minutes summarizing fields on startup, instead of seconds.
March 26, 200916 yr It sounds like there is something wrong on the network itself. Almost sounds like that one computer is on it's own subnet and is having trouble communicating. Something you might want to try: Swap locations between the problem machine and a known working machine. IF the problem stays with the location, there is something wrong with the LAN. If the problem stays with the machine, there is something wrong with the machine. Could even be a flakey ethernet card. This could possibly help point you in the right direction. HTH Dave McQueen
