My organization is running into the 125 file limit on our current Filemaker server and I am considering creating an additional server to address this problem. Our current version of Filemaker server is 5.5 and it is running OSX 10.4 on a macpro.

Can a file on one filemaker server link to a file on another filemaker server?

Any help or alternative suggestions would be appreciated.

Why not just upgrade to a newer version. Then you can have multiple tables in files so you wouldn't have this restriction.

Thank you for your reply.

The possibility of upgrading and using the multi table capability is one I will consider. Although obviously restructuring the data would involve a fair amount of work.

I didn't first notice that this forum is restricted to Versions 9 & 10 only. So I will withdraw my initial question. Sorry for the bad post.

No it is okay. We can move it to another location. To answer your first question, yes you can reference a file on another server.

That being said, I still strongly suggest that you upgrade to a more current version as FMS 5.5 may have issues on newer server hardware.

I will strongly consider the information and advice you have given to me. Upgrading seems like a good idea anyway.

Thank you both for your replies.
