In a small network of two Macs running FM 8.5/FM 9, networked to a third Mac acting as a server via client software, will FM 10/11 script triggers be executable by the clients when they are running the earlier versions of FM?

No.

If I were you I'd rearrange the configuration of the licences: any version from 7 upwards will do for the "server" machine. In this situation, all the "server" is doing is getting the files open and sharing them on the network.

Then use your newer licences on the user machines, where they can benefit from the features in that version.

In your situation, if you have 8.5, 9 and 11:

use 8.5 for the "server"

use 9 and 11 on the user machines

You can then reliably use features released in v9 (such as conditional formatting) with impunity.

But if you use features released in v11 (such as graphs) they will only work on the machine running 11.

Hope that helps.

I'd not recommend using anything earlier than 8.5, with 9.0 preferred.

FMP 11 has commands and functions not present in earlier versions. I don't know how these would behave when hosted in earlier versions of FMP.

So, if I understand this correctly a file/solution can be written with script triggers, say in FM10, be served successfully with any client version of FM from 7 upwards where the script triggers will work with any client machine running 10 or higher?

I don't know. Possibly with FM Server, I'm not sure about peer-to-peer hosting with FMP. Perform a test and let us know the results.
