Krishan Posted August 11, 2001 Posted August 11, 2001 Hello everyone. Could someone please tell me what the difference between the "FM_Remote_DataSource.mod" and the "FM5_DataSource.mod" is? I'm only using one computer which has WebStar Server, Lasso and FileMaker Pro 5. I have the "FM5_DataSource.mod" in the Lasso Modules folder and I have Web Companion activated. Under my FMPro Application Preferences, my network protocol is TCP/IP. My FMPro Network Sharing is set to "Single User". But the dialog box says "Select Multi-User to share this file via TCP/IP". Which do you recommend if I'm going to use WebStar and Lasso? Do you only use the "FM_Remote_DataSource.mod" if you're using a separate machine to host your FMPro databases? I would really appreciate some advice. Thank you. Krishan.
scratchmalogicalwax Posted August 14, 2001 Posted August 14, 2001 For your setup you need to use FM5_DataSource.mod as this module communicates with FMPro using apple events internally......the FM_Remote_DataSource.mod is when you have your FMPro clients running on different machines to your WebServer and WDE and communicates over the RAIC using TCP/IP. I have my databases set to multi user and I have webcompanion plug in enabled. I also use TCP/IP as network protocol (AppleTalk aint up to much). Krishan Posted August 15, 2001 Author Posted August 15, 2001 Thanks scratchmalogicalwax! Has apple events got anything to do with apple talk? Does it matter what network protocol I use, since I'm only using one computer? .... Cheers.
John May - Point In Space Posted August 15, 2001 Posted August 15, 2001 Note that even when using Filemaker on the same machine as Lasso, you should use the FMRemote_Datasource module for better performance. - john
