Sorting Records when going to report layout takes Forever!

Featured Replies

I have a database that when i click on a button to go to a report layout based on a table that contains 120000 records it literally takes about 10 minutes to sort through before displaying the results. While 120000 is a lot its seems like a computer in this day should be able to sort that instantly.

Anyone else have this issue or know a resolution?

Hi!  Are you still on version 9?

Are any of the fields being displayed summary fields or unstored calculations?  Ideally, you want the record set as small as possible since sorting must be done on the client and ALL records in the set must be downloaded at once to sort them (as compared to FMs usual behaviour of *pre-fetching).  Which field(s) are being sorted; are they indexed?  Is this served or over WAN or mobile?

* FM downloads 25 records at a time from server if form view.  If list view, it will download however many records are necessary to display on your layout at one time.  But sorting must download them all (including containers in v 9 through v11) which is a heavy hit.

Oh sorry I'm actually using FM pro 13.

All my calc fields (5 in all) are indexed. I guess i just need to create a smaller set to view instead of viewing everything at once.
