April 9, 201411 yr Newbies I recently installed Filemaker Server 13 on a windows machine. I added my database successfully (i think). I am able to access the database from that same windows machine using the connect to a remote database option in FileMaker pro 13. However, i am unable to access the file from any other machine in my lab which are all macs. i get an error "The file “test.fmp12” could not be opened. Either the host is not available, or the file is not available on that host." Additionally, i am able to connect to the server via the mac 'connect to server' program and confirm that the file exists.

Don't use OS-level file sharing to touch / view a hosted FM file. It's the #1 cause for file corruption in the long run. Do you have a firewall running on the windows machine? If so turn it off, or open port 5003 on it.
