Damaged / Corrupt File Problems

discussions on file related issues and procedures for recovering your files.

  1. Started by Flanzy,

I was putting data into 8.5 from remote location. No problems in past. 2 days ago lost connection but don't know why. Assume it was power outage but no indication when I go to the host site. But the data base was "damaged" nd needed to be recovered. Figured I'd do that later and attempted to open other data bases, They were also were damaged. For reason I can't recall, I decided to reinstall FM. It says installation successful but no menu to operate from. I threw all the FM data bases away etc and it is still not really installing. Can anyone HELP? I've never heard of this.

I've got an online application that queries two different FM7 databases, inputting the data to one of them. (Using FXPHP and FM7 Server Advanced on a Mac). The application deadline is today and last night there were over 100 users of the system. The web pages stopped functioning correctly - incredibly slow, error messages because the queries to one of the databases were failing. Database 1, the smaller, less complicated database that stored the data, worked fine. Database 2, a large, complicated database, couldn't respond to all the queries. Database 2 was also being queried by another set of web pages for a different purpose, also heavily used last night. Question -…

Hello, I have a big FMP-Solution with 30 files. I downloaded the FMP9 Trial Version to inspect my FMP-solution, after I read in another forum, that some users have problems to open some (not all) files that work flawlessly in FMP 8.5. And for 3 of my 30 files, I got the following message: "x.fp7" is damaged and cannot be opened. Use the recover command to recover this file. These files work without any problem under FMP 8.5 When I recover the "damaged" files, the sumary shows 0 Errors, but I read several warnings [color:red]NOT TO WORK with recovered files. So, what can I do? - Sell my solution with FMP 8.5? But it won´t be long un…

I just discovered the new 'feature' of FM Pro 9 crashing when printing.. In order to figure out potential data corruption, I kept making it crash.. and after a few tries, FM came up with the corrupted data thing/recover, etc.. So, my question is-- if this database is hosted on FM 9 Server and the clients are using FM 9 Pro, and they happen to crash when trying to print a record (you know, the print page 4-4 thing, etc.),,, is there less of chance that the data will corrupt because it's hosted by FM 9 Server? and oh-- is there any way to figure out if there's any corruption whatsoever done to a file? I've got backups galore, it's not a problem, but I am wond…

We have several fmp database files, all inter-related, for each section of our company. Our fmp server crashed today and after it checked the files and opened them up, we found that some of the most recent data dissapeared. I understand the concept of exiting a field for data to be saved. But the entire record was not lost, and there were two emails generated by our fmp database sent out by the same user about an hour before the db crashed. We have concluded that the user could not have been in two records at the same time, so the changes had to have been saved on at least one of the two records he was on. Both his records and two others from today have sev…

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I couldn't find a forum that talked about FM errors. Consistently I've been getting the following error: "{Filename} is damaged and cannot be opened. Use the recover command to recover this file." This error happens while I'm working in the file. Randomly it will popup and then close the file. Sometimes I lose some information. Any ideas what could be the cause of this? Thanks

I have a layout that i duplicated. I was making changes to the duplicate layout (moving stuff around, copying parts of another layout) - basically updating the layout, but not making changes to the existing layouts to prevent any issues. While working on the layout, the file closed me out of the server (disconnected me or something, we are still looking into why this has happened twice in the past month, but never happened before) And since i was in edit mode, i think the crash may have messed up the layout. everytime i attempt to go to that layout, filemaker pro freezes up on me! How can i remove this layout or recover it? I copied the entire file and…

  8. i believe when the server was shutdown [by pressing+holding the the front button on the macintosh server] the database became corrupt. i'm hoping i'm wrong. the records still appear, and can be edited, although filemaker claims there are none in the table in the "define database" menu item. one user is having issues where an extra blank record is created in addition to the ones that are supposed to be created via the script. no others are having those issues. when i investigate a copy of the database the automatically (by script) created records in that table appear but disappear and show an empty portal area 'placeholder' (if that makes sense). these empt…
