But if most are running on DHCP would it map correctly and not attempt to access FileMaker as a WAN instead of a LAN? Are you having a specific problem, or is this simply in the planning stages? I would not think that there should be any problems, other than performance wise for accessing with this…

Hi, I'm wondering what the best way is to share a database. At least one computer must have remote access to the database. The problem I found is that with remote connection the complete database is send when a remote data request is done. Is it possible that only the requested data is send via the remote connection? I'm using FileMaker 4.0v3, do I need a FMpro 5 (server) ? Thanks, Sebastiaan.

I'm running a Macintosh FMP Server (ver. 3) on a WAN connecting 10 elementary school. When I connect remotely from another school, I can "Specify Host IP" and save it if I use a Mac, but when I try this with a Windows PCs, I am not able to save the host IP. I get an error message that states, "Can't save host, file not found". I am then able to open the database OK, but next time I try to connect I have to do the whole process of entering the IP number of the host. Any suggestions? thanks.

Hi: I have FMP Server 5 on Mac running TCPIP through a Cable modem. I have a satellite office connecting through tcp-ip to the server through DSL and after a few moments the connection is lost. Can someone offer any reasons for this continued drop in connection? And a resolution? Thank you ------------------ David Roth Gulfshore Media, Inc

I'm running FileMaker Pro 4.1 on an iMac (OS9) configured with Open Transport PPP to create a dialup connection and then attempt to contact our FMP Server 3.0 via TCP/IP. This used to work on the old machine running ConfigPPP, but now it's crashing with OT PPP - the entire program quits unexpectedly with a Type 11, 2 or 3 error. OT is the most up-to-date version, as is OT PPP and I ran FMP Updater to 4.1v3 and that didn't help. It's not a PPP error, eveything else works. I've tried reinstalling FMP and that doesn't work either. Halp! Is this an OS9 compatability issue? I doubt it's an extension confilct because it's pared down to the fewest possible extensions.

I am doing some tech support work for a client. She has a photography studio with 3 macs (G4, G3, 8100/80) all connected on an ethernet network using TCP/IP protocol. On the 8100/80 is a program called THE PROGRAM, dumb I know, is it a program that uses Filemaker Pro runtime to setup up this huge database and invoicing/billing system for her. Problem, she used to have a Performa 6112 that died and I couldn't get the settings off of that machine to know how to setup her new G4. The program resides on the 8100 and has a network launcher install disk that I used to install on the G4, but when I do that I can't get the program the run on the 8100 and act as the host for t…

We host FM on a PC and we have clients that use MACS and PC's to access the database. However, on one of the MACS when I hit hosts (so I can enter in the TCP/IP address of the host) It tells me the file for TCP/IP networking cannot be found. What can I do to solve this problem? Thanks

I am setting up a contact system that is based on the 4.0 Integrated templates (converted to 5.0). I have set up our network using TCP/IP and cross-platformed the solution using a G3 server. I'm using WinFax & FaxLink for the Windows based machines and in the process of setting it up. Is there any thing I need to watch out for? I am able to dial up the URLs with built in modems on the PCs but found I can not get a connection via our network to the browser, yet, I'm able to get it to work on the MACs. I also am unable to send an email from the MACs but able to from the PCs. I'm wondering if using an email plugin is the way to go for the MACs? If I use a plug-in…
