Peer To Peer Sharing

Sharing with FileMaker Client Peer to Peer.

  1. I have an FM7 database on a mac that is shared out to other users. Three users are opening the database remotely without problems, the fourth user gets a message that FM cannot create a temporary file on the system disk. I have closed the database and re-opened it, but the one user is still unable to remotely open the database. I cannot find any fm*.tmp files on the Mac, there is over 10gb of disk space. Any ideas?

  2. Is it possible to network to a stand-alone database created using FMP7 Developer? Does FMP Server allow people to connect to a database without FMP client software? I'm thinking not, unless web-publishing is set up and people access the database through a browser.

We're running multiple copies of FMP5.0 on a MS2003 network. THe main DB is on the server in a shared folder. All machines are XPPro. Though relatively new to us, this environment has been stable for more than a few months. We have multiple copies of a script that generates a small export file for each field rep daily. This file contains records for the customers that field rep is going to contact the fllowing day. Everything has worked fine until recently and still runs fine from my machine. However, on the dispatchers machine up front, even if I log on with my FM credentials, I get an error stating " could not be created on this disk. Use a different name, ma…

  4. Using FM7 and sharing a couple of dbs. Some weird things are happening if anyone has some knowledge about these. The 3 dbs are hosted on my PC and Auto-started very early each morning using a default (read-only) privilege set. All 3 are related to each other. First, a user is working in the db and FileMaker simply shuts down. No message, no warning. Second, I'm presuming that my PC is counted as one of the possible 5 users allowed to access the dbs. Correct? Third, one of the users indicated to me that she has to enter her logonID and password more than once before she finally get access to the db(s). Has anyone experienced this? Fourthly, 2 of th…

Hi all My database has suddenly started not letting me modify any records upon opening a file as the host (although the file is located on my colleague's computer). It works fine and I can modify records when he is the host and I am the guest however. The weirdness really is that it never used to do this until a couple of months ago - and we have been sharing it without problems for the last 2 years... Any solutions to this problem would be gratefully received as I now have to wait to do anything on the database until he comes in in the morning (and he is often quite late - and I don't have a key to his office...). Thanks in advance Charlotte

How many simultaneous clients can connect to a database running under FM Pro 7 (Not server)? I thought it was five, but I tried connecting a second client and got a "too many user's" or some such dialog box.

Hi guys, thx in advance for any help or comments. I'm using a Multi-user FM6 file and it's base on a share folder. I don't have any problem having 2 users connect at the same time withing our business network. Also I have sales rep who isn't base here at the office, they get access throught a VPN. The problem is that FM6 refuse access to my sales rep using his VPN when it is already open by a in-house user. But he can open it when he's the first and only one! In that case, an in-house user don't have access when he's the host of the db. Any help will be appreciate.

  8. I run Filemaker Pro 5 from classic to access the remote filemaker server software. I have just setup a new G5 iMac 1.8 GHz with Panter 10.3.9 and installed Classic and FMPro 5 The problem i have is that when i try to access the remote file server classic gives me the error that AppleTalk is not turned on (not available). Classic offers no tools for turning this on. (Directory Access under OSX shows AppleTalk to be on). I use the System Prefs>Network pane to turn on Appletalk. But it doesn't work. I tried turning it off too and still no go. What's weird is i use a dialup network so when i turn appletalk on or off the only place to do that is under the Airport …

  9. Please help me. This is driving me nuts. The Facts: I have networked two Mac G5's running Mac OS 10.3.6 I have installed FMP7 on the Client and FMP7 Trial on the Host (waiting for my supplier to receive the full version.) We are networked using Airport Extreme in a small office environment. The Problem: The Client Machine will not open files using "Open Remote". I can see the Host Computer but no files show up no matter how long I wait. The Client Machine will open the same files using "Open" as long as the Host Machine does not have the file open. Solutions I have tried: 1)Turning off Mac OS File Sharing (another Topic said to do this as MAC OS S…

Here goes: 3 macs - one host & two clients. Port 5003 open on all three. Connection used to work just fine... Now Mac Two can connect to the file - but only through File -> Open Recent -> File, but will not find the host in File -> Open Remote. Mac Three cannot open the file either way. Any thoughts?

I have a client for a few years now that has a simple 2 PC WiFi network with a version 6 FMP database. Both PCs are Win XP Home, and both have version 6.04; PC "A" acts as the host, and PC "B" accesses the file remotely. A couple of years ago - I did initially have some problems with mysterious sharing/opening errors between the two PCs (remote PC was Win 98 at the time) - but I stabilized it, oddly with a router firmware update (or so it seemed) - and all was fine for a couple of years! Recently, I had to rebuild PC "B" from scratch due to a drive failure. Now I'm having intermittent sharing problems - where one PC or the other can't access the database. I've read s…

I have been told by FileMaker tech support that a FileMaker Pro7 client db cannot be accessible remotely and be a secure connection. I have a client that told me that they used to have remote access using v5.5. My response to them was that "you may have had access to your client-based FM5.5 db, but I doubt if the connection was protected through a secure connection, as in Advanced Server7." Was I right in what I said? Must one have a properly-configured FM Server to enable a secure connection to restricted, remote users? Thanks.
