any custom web publishing without advanced server?

Featured Replies

will there be any way using FM7 to do any custom web publishing without advanced server? Does anyone know if FX.php will work with 7?

1) It appears that custom web publishing is not supported by FileMaker Pro 7 or FileMaker Developer 7.

2) It also appears as though there won't be any changes to the FileMaker CGI spec, or FileMaker's XML grammar, which the FX class is based on. I think it would be a safe bet to continue with FX.

-- If you're into ASP, you can also take a look at the equivalent to the FX class I've written for ASP:

Before everybody gets all antsy about XSLT, I think its important to note that XSLT alone does not provide a good foundation for building business logic based interactive web applications.

Rather, the combination of FileMaker's CGI spec, XML, and XSLT will help make FileMaker data available to other applications such as ASP.NET, ASP, PHP, etc.

DISCLAIMER:

I don't have any "inside" knowledge about FileMaker's plans for web support. Based on the clues I've seen in FM7 and on the FM website, I've made logical deductions as to how it is most likely to be implemented.

FileMaker Server 7 Advanced will provide XML, and it will also provide server side XSLT processing. Tech Brief will be up soon.

Steven

Doesn't FM6 already provide server side XSLT processing, via (I think, trying to remember off the top of my head) the "-stylehref=..." parameter in the CGI spec?

(By "server side" I mean "web companion side")
