Ender Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 Anyone know how to propagate new accounts and password changes with a multi-file solution in FM 7? Is it just a matter of scripting the account & password to every file at the time of the change? Or is this a case where an external authentication server would be best? What I'm looking for is a way for an account to be created automatically when HR adds a new employee, and the password to update in all files when a user changes his/her password. Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 Your best bet is to use External Authentication. However this can also be done with internally authenticated accounts using the Account management steps. See the Tech Briefs at www.filemaker.com/upgrade/techbriefs.html HTH Steven
Ender Posted March 19, 2004 Author Posted March 19, 2004 Mr. Blackwell, I have read through most of the tech briefs, but I have not seen specifics on how to do this with FileMaker's built in authentication. Can you elaborate? Version: v7.x Platform: Mac OS X Panther
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 If the file has a group defined in it, e.g. HR_DataEntry and that Group is atatched to a data entry Privilege Set, and if that Group is marked for external authentication--as it would have to be for the Group name to be entered--then in FileMaker Server (not yet relesed) you would select "Authenticate by FileMaker Pro and External Server." The Domain Group for HR_DateEntry would then have users added or removed as needed. I believe this is covered in more detail in both the Server Tech Brief and in the Security Tech Brief. Also an upcoming isue of FIleMAker Pro Advisor magazine will cover this in great detail. HTH Steven
