Not sure if this should post here or the IWP forum.

Situation: databases are running under FileMakewr Pro 7.0v2 hosted on a G4 Mac running OSX server 10.2.8; clients use same FMP7 version on various Macs running 10.3.4

Have a set of databases (separate files) running on FMP7. One, our job database, references several other files, such as invoices, timesheets, etc and shows the relevant data in portals on separate layouts. This all worked fine under FMP6 and is fine under FMP7 across our internal network. However, none of the portal data shows up on IWP using Safari, Explorer (5.2); also, none of the summary fields based on the portal data appears. Have made sure all fields, relationships and layouts do not include (web) invalid characters such as space, #, etc. Permissions are set such that all (allowed) users have complete access to all files although none of the related files appear in the FMP home page. None of the related files have invalid characters in their file names.

Any suggestions what I am doing wrong. The portals appear - alternating lines, correct colours, scroll bars, etc - but no data! Interestingly, a button in a portal (not a related field) does not even appear.

Would like to stop banging my head against this particular brick wall. The reason we moved to FMP7 was so other internal users could view their Jobs using a browser.

I posted this problem on three forums and only got one reply - and he didn't know exactly how he had fixed the problem. Now I do and so I thought I would share it.

It appears that FMP7/IWP will only display portal data from related tables in the same database, not data from related databases. Rebuilt my multifile database into a set of related tables and everyting is now hunkydory.

Unless you are doing something elaborate, IWP works just fine if you are using separate files. And even if you are doing something elaborate, I suspect it will probably still work.

One thought...did you turn on IWP sharing for the related file too? If I am not mistaken that is a change necessary from previous versions where you might have been able to get away from not doing that. If I turn on IWP for my "main" file but don't for my "related" file, I am left with a blank portal. As soon as I turn on IWP for my "related" file...PRESTO...everything is good once again in Relationshipville.

In any event...in my simple example...IWP works like a champ when more than one file is involved.
