I have a layout that I use to search for contacts in my database. I'm using a global text field to search for these contacts by last name. Works fine in filemaker but when i go to the layout through the web I can't enter the field...

Anyone know why that would be?

I've looked at the search field in the Business Tracker sample app... and that one works through the web. (although I had to modify the scripts to be able to get to that layout through the web)

OK, I created a relationship between the Contacts (table chosen in Layout setup) table and the Preferences table (which contains the global text field).

Now I can enter the field... but I'm not sure why it worked.
