Can't set preference to show recently opened files

After installing FM Pro 7 on a Windows PC, I can't seem to get it to turn on the preference to show recently opened files -- whenever I try to check the box, I get the error "This command cannot be used by this installation of Filemaker"

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that doesn't fix the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this and found a workaround?

I figured out the problem -- long ago I'd unchecked the box for "Maintain Document History" in TweakUI. After enabling that again, Filemaker can once again track recently used files. The Filemaker error certainly wasn't very intuitive...
