Newbies drogers Posted July 16, 2004 Newbies Posted July 16, 2004 I am currently using the trial version of Filemaker pro 7 to store and analyze financial data. some of the calculations and sorting are getting very complex so it takes a great deal of time to compile different reports. We want to purchase Filemaker soon and i am not sure whether I need Filemaker 7 pro or Server 7. i would like a few other consultants to be able to use the database over the web and also i am concerned about the speed of the report processing. i know that the new sever edition takes advantage of thigs like dual processors and extra ram so i was wondering if the pro 7 versions also does this. i dont want to purchase the $1000 server edition if i dont have to. we will be purchasing a new server just to run filemaker. i just want to know what is going to give me the best performance over the web with at most 5 users. thanks
Neverland Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Is it 5 users or 5 concurrent users? In either case FileMaker Pro will handle it but if you add a 6th concurrent user then you are in trouble as the limit in FileMaker Pro 7 is 5 concurrent users. In that case, you would need Server.
Newbies drogers Posted July 16, 2004 Author Newbies Posted July 16, 2004 at very most it would be 5 concurrent users. Thanks of the help Neverland. do you know if FileMaker Pro 7 will take advantave of dual processors and extra Ram?
Crag Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Won't he need FM Server Advanced cause he wants to use the database over the web?
H.P. Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Instant Web Publishing for Filemaker Pro is very limited in functionalities. Although it supports up to 5 con-current users, I doubt that it has enough functionalities to serve your needs. I suggest that you should test publishing to the web first before buying Filemaker. Many script steps will not work with IWP. Crag, he doesn't need to buy Advanced Edition because Filemaker allows him to publish to the web for up to 5 con-current users.
