vascres Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 I have spent a lot of time working with FileMaker this summer, but I realize that I have no inkling about its total capabilities. I need to analyze the data in my database for my research, but I can't seem to figure out how to create summary pages that are relevant and meaningful to me. Please help me. My project: I am researching a specific minimally invasive medical procedure to determine whether it is more beneficial than the current gold-standard open procedure. My data: Approximately 100 patients with a brief patient history, a description of the operation, and follow-up information. This data is in about 90 data fields all in one table with nine different layouts. The layouts are: 1.) Patient History; 2.) Procedure Information; 3.) Follow-Up information; 4.) Interventions / Endpoints; 5.) Operative Note; 6.) Patient Summary; 7.) Patient list and sortable spreadsheet; 8.) Notes; 9.) Patient edit I can edit patient info in all layouts, though I enter most information in the patient edit layout. Specific meaningful data entries include: Age; Gender; Date of Procedure; specific Pre-Op Diagnostic test; date of follow up; type of intervention; type of endpoint; etc. What I need to do: All of the data is in the database - I just need to analyze it. I would like to create a sheet that would have the following information: 1.) Average age of patient; 2.) Number of males/females; 3.) A bar chart showing when these operations have taken place (for instance 4 took place in November, 6 in December; 2 in January; 8 in February; etc.); 4.) Type of symptom that necessitated surgery (there are four possible symptoms - I would like a count of each); I realize that I have little experience creating these kinds of databases, but as a medical student, I don't have much of a resource to which to turn. I ask for any help that anyone might be able to offer. Thank you so much and Tripod you were right about my inexperience. I just didn't realize how little I knew.
