I'm new to Filemaker Pro. Just started. I just got 7. It wont open or work with the file which is reason I got it. I want to call tech support. they need an "ACCESS CODE" All I see is the serial number. Can someone help? I called them but was put on hold, a very, very, very long time.

It's on the folded-over card thing that has your access codes, in the box. It's over on the left side, phone support or something. It's not real obvious unless you look. You only get 1 free call, so make it good.

I surprised it didn't run. I've never had a problem (getting it to start; after that, well...). Does your hardware meet the requirements? Your profile doesn't say anything about your machine.

Thanks Fenton:

Geez I guess I missed that. All I have now is the CD and the seriel number. that usually does the trick. But I would like that one call.

But like I said, I mean NOBODY COMES TO PHONE THERE WHEN YOU CALL.

You think I should write some letter to the company president, the CEO... any idea, tips?? Do you have their fax or e mail?

Yes, I have a dual 533 G4 and getting G5 in couple weeks.

Filemarker said it has to do some conversion, and then it called the main file OLD estimator... and then said can't find files.... that's why I wanted to make that call. If I can't get the free call, I will pop back here with exact details of my problem. thanks appreciate it

PS:

First time on this forum. Unfortunatey, did not see an e mail notification box, I did select to make this thread a favorite, but got no notification, any tips on that?

I don't know what you can do if you can't find the card. It was in the box, and it had your extra serial numbers also; hopefully it's somewhere. But it sounds like you're just having a conversion problem, not an "application installation" problem; I imagine we can help right here. In any case it will be a lot faster than writing the CEO.

There are certain things you should know before converting a solution. Basically, if it's a multi-file solution, you're better off dragging all the files at once onto the FileMaker icon, or just drag the whole folder; it'll know what to do with it.

Or, if it's a multi-file and multi-folder solution (some files are inside nested folders), then you should start at the bottom, and convert all files in one tier at a time, working your way up; you must recreate the original folder structure if you want to relocate the files during the process. I've only done this a couple times with nested folders so far; but it did work.

This will work a whole lot better than just choosing 1 file and trying to go through the dialogs. If all the files are present; if not then nothing's going to work.

There's a lot of information here:

But, more specifically, here:

And most specifically here:
