FM7 vs Collaboration solution...

Featured Replies

has anyone tried to develop a collaboration solution product based on FMP 7? or just a collaboration platform that includes task assignments, project tracking and processes... instant messaging (is it possible?), sharing files (this should be possible?)... etc.

if so, how's the outcome compare to commercial products... is it as good as it can be like those good ones? easy to develop? much limitations? or easy to use?

thanks~

p.s. i am thinking of developing a complete collaboration suite accompanied with database system with FM7... should i go for it or...? :-D

The project I'm working on has most of the components you described, except Instant Messaging. It is quite easy to develop this type of solution. My project also supports public and private messaging.

I did not implement instant messaging because in order to do that, I would have to keep one windows open all the time and refreshes @ certain interval in order to receive new message. Instead of instant messaging, if there's a new message, I display a small letter on the status menu saying for example "You have 1 new private and 2 new public messages".

Basically, I can say that it can be as good as commercial products, depending on how you design it. Instant messaging is not that convenient to develop though.

thanks for sharing~

IM might be a little be inefficient in FM, but interactive messaging is quite enough in my case.
