Newbies DanaK Posted September 20, 2004 Newbies Posted September 20, 2004 I'm simply trying to get a file created in FMPro to display. I'm told that I need the "runtime" or runtime program by the people that gave the file (*.CL5) to us but they can't say what version. I've tried it on a PC that has FM 4 on it but it won't treat it as a native file. I've tried to understand FMPro in the past when we used it for various education databases but it's been quite a while ago. Is the "runtime" program like a simple reader? Something like a free reader program Microsoft gives out so you can view a Power Point presentation? Sorry, but I'm completly clueless on this.
Reed Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 A runtime is a program created using Filemaker Developer that allows you to distribute filemaker applications you've developed to users that do not have filemaker installed. Typically you specify a unique extension for the filemaker files that will be used by the runtime application. This is so those files will open with the runtime and not filemaker pro. If you want to open the file with FM4, you should just be able to change the name to *.fp3 and then open it with filemaker.
Newbies DanaK Posted September 21, 2004 Author Newbies Posted September 21, 2004 Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought but I'd never done it before.
