Loss of text formatting when pasted out of FMP7v2

Since FMP7, the ability to paste styled text into any external program (e.g. NisusWriter) and keep the style has been lost or dropped. I am interested to know how many others are upset about this loss.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I have mixed feelings about this. It used to anoy me when I pasted a name or phone number (something small) and FileMaker kept the font it came in with. It meant that my FileMaker data was inconsistent, sometimes too small to read, an awful looking font, or bold when it shouldn't be, etc. On the other hand, there are times when you do want the formatting -- generally when there's more than a paragraph in a single field I find. My solution was to copy everything to BBEdit, then copy it out again and into FileMaker.

As a result I wrote a plugin to retain the format. (Sorry for the plug: http://www.jazzmedia.com.au/styledtext.html). Sorry about the bad "plug/plugin" pun too :-).

I prefer it this way -- where formatting is not kept by default, but you should still be able to get it in and out when you need to. I do believe FileMaker should have provided a solution (maybe holding down option when copying or pasting), rather than leaving it up to plugin developers.

Cheers,

John
