August 10, 200520 yr In case of doing a file recovery you read a lot of different things, but one thing is not clear to me: After doing the recovery, is it really necessary to export all the data into a text format or is it safe enough to use the recoverd FileMaker files to import the data into clean clones? The first way means the hell of a work, especially afterwards when importing data and matching all data to the correct fields!
August 11, 200520 yr Unfortunately, recover does not "clean" the data, so you should export to a text file. Of course, this doesn't help for container fields. If you export as type "merge", you can re-import using matching field names To answer your question, I have "cheated", and imported directly from the recovered file. Your choice. FileMaker really could use an "export data" button, that would automatically select all the text, number, date, and time fields for export -) see my post on corruption and recover here: http://masdevelopment.com:3455/1/57?view=print
August 11, 200520 yr Author Thanks for this! I once "cheated" too, but at this point without knowing... Thanks for the link, but somehow I wish I had never read it...it's like the summary of a developer's nightmare -) So basically - let's hope not to experience a situation like this!
