Rafita Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Hi! ¿Does somebody knows if there is any way to auto-enter a value in all repetitions of a repeating field? I've tried the auto-enter option with both "Data" and "Calculated Result" but only the first repetition is affected Thanks.
Søren Dyhr Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Well, why bother ...You have Fm8.5 adv. Make the matter as a recusive CF instead. Repeaters have only a role to play as relational key and storage of images... This is a counter productive endeavour, you here are embarking on. At least explain why you deliberatly have ignored real relational data, repeating fields are not quite like arrays found in other tools, and keep in mind that this is a database tool, and not a programming language. I know the answer to you question, but won't give it before you have justified your disposistion. --sd
AudioFreak Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I know the answer to you question, but won't give it before you have justified your disposistion. --sd LMAO.......I think you hate repeating fields more than I do.
Rafita Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Ok. Third time's charm! I'll wait for another opinion, as I am still in the starting point. Anyway tks, gentlemen.
comment Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 See if this helps you to do whatever it is that you want to do, and that Søren thinks you shouldn't be doing, and I would probably agree, if only I knew what it is that you want to do.
Rafita Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Ok, Dr. H: That formula worked perfectly. Muchas gracias.
LaRetta Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I've had those experiences ... when it's over before I even remember it beginning. :
Stuart Taylor Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 LOL LaRetta Must be the speed at which you create relationships :
Stuart Taylor Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 LMAO, too much Concatenating will make you go blind. :
Søren Dyhr Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Ok, Dr. H: That formula worked perfectly. Muchas gracias. Perhaps, but what if the accomplished is conceptually wrong? The entire thread referenced is one where Daniele and I were carried away in nifty ways the calc' engine works, but where we have difficulties in finding our discoveries of any use at all. Please inform me where mine and Danieles bysantine crincles have it's use at all, and why the deployment of such trickery is better than a normalized approach ... my imagination fails me here! --sd
Rafita Posted June 15, 2007 Author Posted June 15, 2007 Seeing those terms, I'm afraid of doing something wrong, but this is the whole picture of what I did, and it works. Thanks to you all, guys! auto-enter.zip
Søren Dyhr Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 The image says almost nothing about it's deployment, it's just like a handgranate, which can be absolutely harmess until someone removes the safety pin. Stuffing the same data in every field of a repeater, is just as violating 1 NF as stuffing each field with different values, the issue is that ...it's one fact per field. Are you bending the rules or??? Repeaters should be reserved for utilipurposes only, and setting a repeater with No's isn't hardly anything to do with keyvalues. If the number of lines where the default value needs to entered was a portal with portal lines would a straight forward autoenter of 1 in the single related fields def. be all it takes, provided you format the field boolean! --sd
