You can make your field a button itself to call a script.

Thanks. Yes, i know how to do this.

I have a Merge field that reference a GlobalField though so i'd like the Globalfield to be calculated based on a Find so it will display the Merge Field.

Is it not possible to call a calculated script through fields so?

How about attaching a sample file with your field names, and layouts, and any scripts you are involving (or a copy of the real file w/o confidential data), so we can not talk in hypothetical, but instead see what you have now, and understand what you are trying to accomplish.

From what I'm understanding so far, I sure you will be able to do what you want, but not necessarily the way you are describing it.

Hi,

Can't really post it to give an example as it is linked to an SQL Server. Think i found another way though but would still like to know is it is possible to call a script from the field and not a button.

Thanks

Call a script from a field? Do you mean "have a script fire when a field is exited" or "fire a script when a field value changes" or "fire a script when the field is entered/clicked into"? Sully, general questions don't work well in FileMaker because FM is far too flexIble. None of the things you've said so far provide a clear picture of what you want. We need specifics.

Give specific example and we can give specific answer. :wink2:

As an aside, I believe the answer will be no (if you mean one of the first two questions I asked you back) but can't verify without seeing a specific example. It usually requires a trigger of some sort, which means an event trigger plugin. If you mean the third question, John answered it.

Hi LaRetta,

I have a field which i thought it could be equal to a calculation where the calculation is a Calc Field which would be equal to "Get Script"

Thanks

Sully, you are speaking in abstract. Please give the specific real-life situation you are dealing with. A calculation cannot run a script (when its value changes) unless you have an event trigger plugin. But again, without knowing what you are trying to do, I can't even suggest alternatives. There are usually ways of accomplishing things in FM without event triggers. Thoughts:

1) You don't need a field which matches a calc field. Why would you?

2) What is the script you want to run when a condition changes?

3) What is the User doing when this is happening?

4) What is your setup, ie, relationships?

We need to know context and process (as aptly phrased by Comment). Your entire contribution to this thread has been simple 1-2 lack-of-information sentences. I have asked for specific example - you give NONE. With 73 posts, you should know better by now that we are NOT mind-readers. Cough up; be willing to put some effort into your responses or don't expect us to put effort in trying to pull the information out of you in multiple posts! :wink2:

I dont know what you mean by your last post... None of it has answered anything that we have asked earlier...

I have re-read this thread a few times and I think I know what you are asking for now (only a guess) Are you asking if there is a way to click on a field and select from a list to run a particular script?

Well, for my guessing here, I was thinking that he needs a triggering plugin, as Laretta mentioned earlier. So, when the field modified or changes, then a script will be executed. Maybe, that what he wants... :qwery:
