Gabriela Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I can't figure out how to set the FM Server backup script to backup to an external drive. Is this possible? If so, what's the file path I need to enter? Thanks, Gabriela
Gabriela Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 no errors. I get the settings in Schedule where I have to enter the file path. But I don't know a file path to another Mac should be defined and how do I let FMS know how to log into the other machine?
Vaughan Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Are you trying to backup to an external drive or a shared volume? FMS can only save the backup files to local hard disks (which includes external hard disks). The backups cannot be saved to a network path. Saving to a network shared volume would slow FMS down significantly, plus it's a failure point for the backup process. The best method is to run either an OS level script or use another program to copy the FMS backups to the shared network folder.
Gabriela Posted July 6, 2010 Author Posted July 6, 2010 Thanks, yes my intention was to backup to a networked mac. So I will look into the other options you mention, and will go down the local volumn option. I have a spare internal drive which I we can install. Thank you very much for your help.
