November 30, 201015 yr I've got to make a MAC run time from a set of .fp7 files. I'm a windows guy and i cant afford to buy a mac and the FMP adv to make the rt. Any generous folk that would be willing to gen the run time for me? TIA... [email protected] Edited November 30, 201015 yr by Guest
November 30, 201015 yr You get both versions of FileMaker so that you CAN develop for both platforms. Lee
December 1, 201015 yr True. No additional software cost; they already have it. Need to buy the Mac though. And of course - as so many people do - then can consolidate on the Mac, use Windows in Boot Camp or Parallels, and use one machine for both operating systems. I know of a number of businesses buying Macs strictly to run Windows, they never use MacOS.
December 1, 201015 yr Author Lee / Bruce.. I do not have an Apple OS machine and i'm not going to buy one just to generate a single run time for a friend. Back to my original question.. can you generate the mac rt for me?
December 1, 201015 yr What's the point of this request? You're not going to save any money and you're going to delay your project and add external dependencies.
December 1, 201015 yr Kris, If your friend has a Mac, just install FMA on his Mac, create the runtime, then uninstall FMA. B
December 1, 201015 yr Author Bruce.. not to be a jerk but here it is anyway... whats the point of your arguing with me about what I want or don't want? If I was asking for some engineering/design issue or problem to be resolved by group discussion then questioning my request is welcomed. That living group think is the prime value of this forum for me and your input has been significant however.. All i did was to simply ask for someone to process a run time for me. Volunteer or not... thats all the discourse I thought I needed. If you want to debate the merits of run times perhaps you should take it up with FM engineering because i don't have the knowledge, experience, or willingness to make an argument.
December 1, 201015 yr Author I didnt want to violate the FM licensing regulations.. Is this permissible? Can i install FMA 11 on his machine use it for my purpose and them remove it?
December 1, 201015 yr I have made no comments about the merits of runtimes. My comment is about your request for other people to do work of significant value for your for free, with some likelihood that there will be additional requests and changes in projects of this type, so that the volunteer must again handle it for you for free. Timeliness of response to your friend/client is consequently reduced as well. Edited December 1, 201015 yr by Guest
December 1, 201015 yr Yes, you can install FileMaker Pro Advanced on his machine, make the runtime, then remove it. We had this same discussion on FileMaker's free web forum, and a company contact said it was OK.
