New to Servers- Advantages and Disadvantages of Single and Multiple server deployment

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am just wondering what the pros and cons of deploying FMS on a multiple server environment or single server environment?

I am kind of confused with this.

Thanks

If you expect a good load of web users, or your web server is otherwise already busy with non-FM requests then it makes sense to install the FMS Web Publishing Engine on the web server and the FMS database engine on its own machine.  That will give you better performance than letting one machine take care of all the tasks.

I have a maximum of about 8 users using the server at a given time. Should I just go with a single dedicated server and install it on a single machine environment?

Eight FIleMaker Pro client users or FIleMaker GO client users will work well with a single machine.  If all users are employing WebDirect, eight users is border-line, according to FMI's specifications.

Be sure you use a good machine with adequate RAM (12 GB) and the correct OS, such as Windows Server 2012.
