I am doing some tech support work for a client. She has a photography studio with 3 macs (G4, G3, 8100/80) all connected on an ethernet network using TCP/IP protocol. On the 8100/80 is a program called THE PROGRAM, dumb I know, is it a program that uses Filemaker Pro runtime to setup up this huge database and invoicing/billing system for her. Problem, she used to have a Performa 6112 that died and I couldn't get the settings off of that machine to know how to setup her new G4. The program resides on the 8100 and has a network launcher install disk that I used to install on the G4, but when I do that I can't get the program the run on the 8100 and act as the host for t…

  5. I have a need to set filemaker server timeout for inactivity to 10 minutes for most of the clients for security reasons. However, the clients that are responsible for daily input and access to the data base are also logged off after ten minutes of inactivity. I need a way to allow a select group of people, either with the status(groups) or status(username) that will not log them out for inactivity. I was hoping to write a script that would execute every 9 minutes, causing activity to occur for the select user. But I can't figure out how to get this to work. Any ideas? Specs: FM Pro 5 Server running on Mac G3 server, TCP/IP, 25 clients mostly running Windows (yech) …

My company has used File Maker for years on MAC computers, but they have decided to switch to PC's. When we transferred the database from the MAC's to the PC the layout on the screen was fine, but when we print a sheet the layout becomes misaligned. We have sheets of data that display operation numbers in one column and they must line up with the operation data in another column. Well on the screen the numbers line up with the data, but when we print the sheet the numbers no longer align with the data. It worked perfectly on the MAC version, but when used on a PC we have that problem. What could cause this problem? Please help.

  8. Can anyone tell me if they have had any issues deploying Filemaker Pro via; Cytrix? I would be interested to know of any problems on both PC & Mac Platforms.

  9. Hello all I need help with a FileMaker Pro 5.0 database which we set up in-house, with which I'm having the following problem: The database keeps very simple information on all the jobs we're working on, from the obvious "client name" "client address", "job name", "job number" and so on, to things like "items to bill", "fees", etc. We have used this database before for a long time, but only one person had access to it, so there was no need to share the file over a network from a server, but this has changed: we decided to make it accessible to all staff so that each person could enter their own information without delays from passing the written details to one person wh…

  10. We host FM on a PC and we have clients that use MACS and PC's to access the database. However, on one of the MACS when I hit hosts (so I can enter in the TCP/IP address of the host) It tells me the file for TCP/IP networking cannot be found. What can I do to solve this problem? Thanks

I am porting a database from FMP4 MAC to FMP4WINDOWS, I rename the FMP Mac file with a .fp3 extension, but the files names in the scripts haven't this extension and the script don't work because of this. Do you know how to globaly change the file name to add .fp3 extension because I have dozen of scripts. I plan to upgrade to PMP5, do you think I will have to modify all scripts an other times (extension are FP5) ?

Hi there, I have a large FM DB used over a network. I do know how to protect the records by passwords - but how can I prevent a user from copying the whole database file into its own PC and then take away an authorized copy? I have tried offering the DB over intranet (web broswer) but it's quite slow and with limited features. Any idea about what can I do? Thanks. Regards Johnny

  13. I am sharing a filemaker 5.0 database from the network server, (NT), and the first person that opens the the database on their workstation gets the message: "You are about to become the host of the multi-user file....etc. etc." I have seen something about a registry mod that will disable that message. Does anyone have this or know what I need to do to disable it? Thanks for the help. If you do, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks again. ------------------ Brian J. Marks [email protected]

I am working with FMP 3.0 for Mac. I want to print the same record, multiple times on the same page (for labels). Unfortunately, I can only get the label/record to print one time per page--which wastes a lot of paper. Any Solutions? Sorry this is such a basic question but please can anybody help! I have a simple database on a small network and am experiencing long time delays when 'guests' are swapping between databases. At present I am using the 'open' command to access another database. Is there a better solution? Much thanks Nick

I am setting up a contact system that is based on the 4.0 Integrated templates (converted to 5.0). I have set up our network using TCP/IP and cross-platformed the solution using a G3 server. I'm using WinFax & FaxLink for the Windows based machines and in the process of setting it up. Is there any thing I need to watch out for? I am able to dial up the URLs with built in modems on the PCs but found I can not get a connection via our network to the browser, yet, I'm able to get it to work on the MACs. I also am unable to send an email from the MACs but able to from the PCs. I'm wondering if using an email plugin is the way to go for the MACs? If I use a plug-in…
