Crestline, CA, Jan 7, 2014 -- Dracoventions has released Beta 64-bit updates of all 2empowerFM plug-ins for use on FileMaker Server 13. That means our free SQL Runner, Script Scheduler, and Text Toolkit for regular expression and hash functions are all waiting for you to use with FileMaker's latest server technology. Dracoventions is proud to be one of the first plug-in vendors to offer the 64-bit upgrade. As you may have heard, FileMaker Server 13 requires all plug-ins to be 64 bit instead of 32 bit. If you try to load a 32-bit plug-in, it simply won't load, logging a cryptic error message to system.log on Mac that ends with the words "mach-o, but wrong architecture". On Windows, FileMaker Server won't even list plug-ins unless their filename ends in ".fmx64" instead of ".fmx". On Mac, it's not easy to tell if a plug-in supports 64 bit, but it can be done by running a command in the Terminal app: file <path to plug-in file>/Contents/MacOS/* If you see "64-bit" anywhere in the output, the plug-in supports 64 bit. ZippScript may be gone, but you can use other free script running plug-ins like 2empowerFM Script Scheduler (script.dracoventions.com). To make this work, go to: File > Manage > Permissions > Privilege Sets > New... > Records > Custom privileges... Pick a table (this has to be done one table at a time, unfortunately, and can't be applied to [Any New Table]) and click the Delete pulldown menu at the bottom. Choose "Limited...". In the calculation window that appears, put something like this: epScriptQueue("Delete Record Trigger") + 1 The "+ 1" tells the calculation to allow the record to be deleted. If you don't include + 1, FileMaker shows an error dialog like "This operation could not be performed because you do not have the requested access privileges for one or more records". If you're willing to show the user that error, then you could have the "Delete Record Trigger" script decide whether or not to actually delete the record. As long as the script has "Run script with full access privileges" checked at the bottom of the Edit Script dialog, it won't call your delete record permissions check again. Also, in the "Edit Privilege Set" dialog, be sure to change "Available menu commands:" to "All" or the user you assign the privilege set to won't have permission to choose the Delete Record command at all.

Every piece of text has its own hash that doesn't change unless the text changes. Therefore, you can store the hash of one or more FileMaker fields to determine when any of them have been altered. This can be used for security or to determine when changed records in two databases need to be synchronized. Save passwords safely. When a hash is "strong", it is virtually impossible to calculate what piece of text it was created from. Therefore, if you store the strong hash of a password instead of the password itself, it doesn't matter if the hash is stolen from your database. A thief can't use a strong hash to determine the password that created it. Many hash methods. 2empowerFM Text Toolkit supports many hash methods: TR1, MD5, SHA1, SHA256, and SHA512 (one of the strongest hashing methods available) and uses well-tested, third-party hashing libraries.
