I haven't found a way to go to the next, previous, first or last record using a script. If I want to change a field in found records, I find them, make a change and omit the record and repeat. Is there a better way?

Are you changing the same information in the same fields? If so, you sould look at using a loop in your script, along with Set Field, Insert Calculated Result, etc.

Go to Record/Request/Page [Exit after last, Next]. It's in the Navigation script section underneath 'Go to Layout'.

Hi Larry,

If you're on a Form layout and just want buttons (or arrows) to move forward and backward through your record set, an easy way...Insert > Button. Then right-click and 'Specify Button.' Left-side under Navigation Go To Record (as everyone says). Type your button label and you're done. You can get fancy with Arrow graphics also but you can type << < > >> for the effect and it only takes a second. smile.gif

LaRetta,

Macs don't have right and left buttons.

The key combination is Control Up Arrow Key (Previous Record) and Control Down Arrow Key (Next Record).

The macs I work on have left and right buttons.

Some older 7500s and some iMacs came with that stupid unimouse. We promptly replaced them all.

Ctrl + click will bring up the contextual menu on Mac.

Hmmm, post subject was 'Script to go to next/previous record.'

I haven't found a way to go to the next, previous, first or last record using a script.

I don't know how you reach Specify Button for a Mac. Right-Click on Windows. Is that clearer? smile.gif It's where ever you find Field Format.

Specify Button ... A script-step assigned to an object or button, via generic script (without having to create one in ScriptMaker). Creating your four navigation buttons is very quick this way. Surely Macs have Specify Button? wink.gif

As a rule -- not just in FileMaker -- Control-Click is the process that works wherever "right-click" would work for PC (because it's command/apple, not control, that does the bulk of the keyboard shortcut work). But indeed, there are few serious Mac users who don't buy a good aftermarket mouse to replace the standard-issue....

But I've always wondered why "Specify Field..." can *only* be accessed in this way. It's a bit odd that it's not in the format menu, say...

Maybe FM will have an object-oriented palette someday, besides for object size!

There are other alternatives to using a mouse, and still be considered a "serious Mac user". I prefer to use FileMaker's own keyboard combinations where available, to supplement those with Quickeys modules. However, a WACOM pad will eliminated the need for a mouse altogether.

Specified Field can be reached by double clicking on the field when in layout mode. However, if it is a button, then the easiest way is to use the Control Click.

Hi ESpringer,

This thread seems to be confused! Maybe it's the pre-holiday spirit. smile.gif

I thought we were talking about Specify Button - which CAN be accessed also from Format > Button to assign a quick script. And Lee is correct that Specify Field can be accessed by double-clicking the field but we're not talking about Specify Field at all. crazy.gif

And the original question wasn't about using arrow keys to move through records (as a wheel mouse will also do that) but how to attach a script to allow easy navigation between records, or so I thought. grin.gif

Well, I think it's time for a holiday drink, as Stephen's Forum colours have just put me in the Christmas spirit. smile.gif

I got a refill, unfortunately it's for Augmentin XR, not booze. I can't drink whilst taking my other meds either. Ay! And to top it off, the pharmacist said this new stuff is sure to give me some Montezuma's Revenge! I replied that I think I'll need another perscription to deal with the first one. Blah.

Yo &%*!ing ho! Merry freakin' Christmas, and please pass the TP. crazy.gif

Now you messed around and got hit with gonorrhea! ooo.gif

Just kidding - what, did you get a bronchiole infection or pneumonia?

Ken

PS - drinking while taking medications makes the world a better place grin.gif

Well, this year it was bronchitis and a sinus infection. The bronchitis is apparently gone (yay!); but the infection seems to be getting stronger (yuck!).

I think it might be better to have gonorrhea. At least then my head wouldn't be congested. Errr. You know what I mean. wink.gif

PS to your PS - not when taking a narcotic cough syrup shocked.gif

I'm sure you NoCals felt it - but nothing down here.

Heard the "Governator" was in Paso Robles where 5 people were killed. Doesn't suprise me. Paso Robles is this little po-dunk town on the central coast where the Wal-Mart is the best thing goin'.
