7 on Linux

Featured Replies

I have not found this referenced, will FMS7 be a possibility on Linux?

Version: Developer v6

Platform: Windows XP

the official answer is maybe

The current official answer can be found here http://www.filemaker.com/products/fms_faqs.html#28

At time of this posting it says:

"Does FileMaker Pro 7 support Linux on the desktop?

FileMaker Pro 7 does not support Linux.

Will FileMaker Pro 7 support Linux on the desktop?

At this time there are no plans for Linux support with FileMaker Pro 7. (Server users, see above for information on FileMaker Server and Linux)."

FileMaker 7 is positioned to move up into more challenging corporate roles and in those arenas, Linux servers are frequently encountered. I think that the probability that FMI will be dropping Linux support for FMS is very remote. The only question is exactly when will they release it.

The exact wording of the public statement which appears on the FMI web site at http://www.filemaker.com/products/fms_requirements.html is:

"We recognize the growing popularity of servers running the Linux operating system and plan to bring out versions of FileMaker Server 7 and FileMaker Server 7 Advanced that run on Linux."
