BrentHedden Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Is it possible while using a runtime solution created with Developer 7, to have access to the layout mode? And/Or just a few selected files in the R.T. to have access to the layout mode? I mainly want this so that our clients can move/change fields around the page for printing purposes. I never figured out a way to do this with V6, and after researching it, determined that it wasn't possible. My hopes concerning this may be rekindled with this new version. Of course, the trial download of V7 couldn't address this, and any research I've done with the FM website has turned up unanswered. I just want to see if it can or can't before investing the money into any purchase. Thanks! -Brent FileMaker Version: 6 Platform: Windows 2000
Newbies hmcmahon Posted April 23, 2004 Newbies Posted April 23, 2004 I just updated version 5.5 to 7.0 and the text is now blurry on the screen. Any clue why? or how I fix it?
Doug Leib Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 hmcmahon... there's been alot said about this already. Do a search for fonts and you'll get an ear full. Let me guess... you're using Windows. One of 7's new features is anti-aliased fonts but there is an interaction problem with Windows font smoothing. This is not a problem on the Mac... just one more reason to switch. As far as layout mode in a runtime version... no! Then it wouldn't really be runtime. Depending what you need to do with runtime there are some dynamic layout tricks that work for certain situations but no where near as flexible as layout mode.
Newbies hmcmahon Posted April 23, 2004 Newbies Posted April 23, 2004 Thanks Doug. Yes, I am using Windows, but I don't have a choice, I'm at work. Are you saying I should change fonts? I'm using Helvetic, which I thought was a pretty common font...
Doug Leib Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Changing fonts won't solve the problem. Search for fuzzy or blurry or fonts and you should be able to learn more. Larger font selections may help.
BrentHedden Posted April 26, 2004 Author Posted April 26, 2004 Hmm, that's what I was afraid of. Most of our clients wouldn't want to shell out the $$ to purchase FMP. I was working on a solution where the client would be able to put a pre-defined field(s) anywhere on the layout. The background layout would simply be a scanned image of a particular form(application) that they wanted to work on, and then put the mapped fields where the answer to the question would go, then print it out. I haven't come up with any good solution. Doug, you mentioned some possible ideas on getting around this. Could you possibly elaborate on this for me. I still might get a few idea so I won't have to scrap this project.
Doug Leib Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 I doubt that any of the ideas I was thinking of would be feasible in the situation you describe. Sorry.
