I have a portal...which draws it's information from a 2nd data base. I would like to make 2 two scripts that do the following:

1) The first script I would like to make is one that goes to the second data base, but keeps the same insured ID. This is so I can add a line to the portal. The reason I do not add it directly to the portal is that I have too many fields...Only some are shown on the portal.

2) The second script I would like to make is when you click on a row in the portal...the seconf data base opens the the relating portal entry... Is is so I can view the other information not listed in the portal....

Can some one help me with both scripts.....

Thank you

Need to update your vocabulary. You have 2 tables. Are these 2 tables in the same file or are they each in their own file? The approach is similar but there are differences.

In FMP 7, changing tables is as simple as changing layouts! And a layout can even reference a different file.

Ok...I think I am getting FM7... I think I messed up frown.gif

I have 6 different Files... Not layouts...Meaning when you minamize them you can see them in the window...

Should I keep them this way or should I redo all of them so they are in the same file... I did not knwo FM7 could do that...

Is there a way to import the 5 different data files into FM7 with out redoing them....

After I do this I can return to my question on how to make a portal go (Open the correct file (table)... frown.gif

Even if you have 5 different files, you can set up a layout in any file to reference a table in any other file.

Ok...That makes sense...I have a bigger questions for you...

Should I keep the 6 seperate files seperate -- for some reason or should I make them all into one file--Under table in FM7?

I am really not experanced in FM7 to know this?

What do you think?

Thank you

Thank you for your response...

I have two tables and yes they are in different files...

I would like to make two scripts....

1. the first would be a button that brings up the 2nd table (in a different file)..there is a catch to it...I would like to bring up a blank form (tobe filled out) that relates to the 1st table (the record that I was on)...this way someone could add a file to the 1st very easly...

2. the second would be when you click on the portal row...it should bring up the 2nd table (different file)...the catch is that I wish when I click on a portal row...it brings up the related person so I can see all of the fields not displaed in the portal...

Thank you for your time

"Should I keep the 6 seperate files seperate -- for some reason or should I make them all into one file..."

We're all asking the same question. There are pros and cons (as always) which may include ease of backup, portability/modularity, phase of the moon...

One huge advantage is that related files do not appear in the Window menu in FMP 7: in fact they're all but invisible.

One advantage of having a single file is the extreme ease of user account management.

Only time (and mistakes!) will tell.

ok...great...I will let you know what happens with my tables....oh the phase of the moon looks great for making all tables in one file...

Thanks
