James McIlwrath Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 I would like to represent a number field, used for Boolean values, on a layout with a checkbox. This is what Windows design guidelines recommend. How do I do that?
LaRetta Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 You can create a Value List with only a 1 in it. It will toggle on and off. And if you name it something generic like 'Select', it can be attached to different fields whenever you need an on/off toggle. However, a true 'on' Boolean can be any number > 0 and this would not work if it contains anything other than a 1, 0 or blank. If you put a 1 and a 0 in your Value List, you risk the possibility that both values can be checked. I'm unsure where you get your information but it's been my understanding that radio buttons are best used for on/off (one or the other). But I use checkbox for a single 'true' or 'on' condition quite frequently. LaRetta
