Newbies Alerus Posted May 28, 2004 Newbies Posted May 28, 2004 I just started learning File Maker Pro 7 and have been doing well but have run into one thing I can't seem to find out how to do. This database keeps tracks of many dates. I would like to have basically a date field that is an array so that it remembers the last 10 or so dates entered (which can also be referenced in formulas and I would actually like to do this for many fields). Obvisouly making a sperate database that is relational would not work because I would need a new database for each record then. Is there anyway I can make fields work as an array? Thank you.
CoZiMan Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 This is possibly an example where you could use repeating fields. HOWEVER, there are major differences with how you manage repeating fields and they can be quite sophisticated and complex. I suggest you flesh out your requirements and post in the "Defining Fields" forum. There are 'Field' gurus lurking there . . .
RalphL Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 FileMaker does not support arrays. I don't think that you understand relational databases. One related file could hold all you information with a record for each date. A portal in the main file could show you the last 10 dates and the other information you want to show.
