May 31, 200421 yr Using IMac OS10.2.8. Up graded to FM7 and converting files from FM5. There has been some talk about FM7 slow speed. From my perspective the solution is so slow I don't want to actually put it to use in the company until there is a fix but I'll continue converting the scripts and upgrade features until the fix is available (assuming it will be). I wonder if my slow speed is due to using OS 10.2.8 and not the latest version of OSX, or I truely have a bug. I have short scripts. go to layout x, change window tile name to Y, set fields A & B & C. Show dialogue. What I see happeing is one by one the steps being done. A fast (but not very fast) count of 1,2,3,4 and you can see the script unfold: the previous layout, then the window tile name changes, then the layout changes to the new layout then a blank dialoge box then the filled in message in the dialogue box. (The order of the scripting does not impact on the speed.) This is a big slow down from FM5. Is this everyone else's experience? PS the side bar lists Server 7 but it's FM7.
May 31, 200421 yr Did you do all the required preconversion work, did you run MDM File Reference Fixer on your files?
May 31, 200421 yr Author At this time I can't recall all that I did but I followed the FM instructions bit by byte. I don't recall any MDM fixer but will take another look at it. On the PDF from FM about conversion, didn't read about the fixer. Will take another look and see. Thanks.

June 1, 200421 yr Author $500 is a hard nuber to forget. I thought you were referring to a FM function when you asked about MDM. After reading the FM information all I did (a couple of months ago) was take the folder containing the FM records and overlay onto the FM7 icon. Is it worth investing $500?
June 1, 200421 yr If you don't want to invest in MDM, you can look at your file-references in FM7 and clean them up manually. Go to "File" -> "Define" -> "File References" to see them. If there are multiple paths to a file, particularly invalid networked ones, the file will slow down drastically.
June 1, 200421 yr That will deal with a significant subset of the file references. But there can be other references in scripts, imports, etc.
June 13, 200421 yr I'm on 10.2.3, and I'm finding that every operation in FMP7 is way too slow -- including switching between layouts. I also tried the FMP templates, to see if it was maybe my files -- but the templates are also painfully slow (even entering data into a field). Is it my operating system? Isn't 7 supposed to be incredibly fast?
