Steve N Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 I down loaded a plug in called MacExample that triggers events from a field and auto formats fields. I think I got this from cns, but i can't remember. My questions are: Is this a free plug in? Is is the same one that comes form developer? Can I use it on a network on more than one machine? I remember seeing another method (new to 7) that you can autoformat a phone number (or any number), but I don't think it used a plug in but I can't fint that now.
Crag Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 Actually there are other ways to auto-format fields (like phone numbers). Check out http://www.filemakermagazine.com/modules...r=0&thold=0 for a nice lesson on the subject. It's easier then you might think. Of course, I wish FM had a way to trigger events from fields themselves....
Fenton Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 That's what he's talking about. The MacExample.plugin (there's also a Windows version) IS the plug-in that comes with FileMaker Developer. It's also available other places; FileMaker didn't include it with regular FileMaker, but apparently it can be distributed. Look at the Resources section at http://www.databasepros.com for an example file, with the plug-in included. It has phone number formatting as one its functions. And triggering scripts. Though, with the new Auto-enter calculation, uncheck "Do not allow replace contents", you can just copy/paste a formula to do the same thing. Look at the http://www.datatude.net Downloads/Tips page for an example of this (also some at databasepros I would imagine).
-Queue- Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 Did anyone else notice on that FileMaker Magazine video when he selects some text, clicks the Clear button, and selects 'No' to 'Are you sure you want to clear the selected text?', that it deletes the text anyway? He doesn't even seem to flinch, just continues with the lesson as if nothing had happened. Classic!
