About to create a solution for a client in the Security Industry. They desire to share the database solution among 8 network users. Should I go with the tried and true Filemaker 6 OR go with the new Filemaker 7.......any suggestions would be appreciated.

I recommend FMP7 since they are in the "Security" business they will appreciate the security that 7 provides you will spend less time creating a "Login system" under 7 and put more time into the core of the solution.

All new development should be done with 7 as six will become less supported and shortly become less available.
