I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to this database stuff, so it gives me great joy whenever I master something I've been struggling with.

I think I have figured out PDF storage for FM 7, at least some of it.

I've been developing a work order database for my shop.

LAYOUT ONE holds the usual data: Order Date, Contact Info:, task description, etc.

LAYOUT TWO: is a columnar type layout that just lists TASK DESCRIPTION.

LAYOUT TWO also has a transparent button overlaid onto the field TASK DESCRIPTION.

This button activates the script: GO TO LAYOUT ONE.

LAYOUT TWO IS the active layout. When you see a task you want to perform, you click on the task description. The transparent button transports you back to the underlying record with the rest of the information.

LAYOUT ONE: also has a container field to hold PDF information, ie. shop drawings, etc.

The problem I was having was that whenever I tried to insert a picture of the PDF into the container field, all I could see was a fuzzy facsimile. When I tried to print it out, the print quality was also quite weak.

THE SOLUTION was to insert the WHOLE file. (This is the bottom option on the insert dialog box).

After the whole file has been inserted you can double click the container field to launch the PDF in normal PDF mode.

Like I said, I struggled to get this far, so I thought I might leave some bread crumbs on the floor for others to follow.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW NOW: Does anybody know of a way to launch the PDF without having to double click on the container field?

Thanks,

Jarvis
